DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The original was placed on the high altar altarpiece of the church of St. Augustine, built in the thirteenth century with the adjoining convent by the Augustinian monks and enlarged in the second half of the fifteenth century. Enthroned Madonna and Child, in the center of the triptych, it is still venerated as Our Lady of Grace. It was originally equipped with a dais with the Stories of St. Catherine of Alexandria and four Saints. The blade has the sides of the Virgin Enthroned Saints James, Augustine, Bernardino and Margaret. The triptych as a whole measuring 258 cm by 210 cm, 211 cm long while the dais is 40 cm high. All the work is done in tempera on wood. In the 60s of last century the central panel of the Madonna was stolen and then recovered as a result of an attempt to auction. Unfortunately the table, at the time of its discovery, had been cut to about 30 cm in the lower part. This explains the existence in the image of a wooden plinth not painted.
